Institutional history
History of Panchayat depicts the administrative, social and developmental journey of a Gram Panchayat since its formation.
Panchayats in Kerala have their roots in ancient Gram Sabha systems. After independence, various laws were enacted to strengthen the institutions of local self-government. With the enactment of the Kerala Panchayati Raj Act, 1994, the Panchayats got more powers and responsibilities.
The history of a Panchayat usually includes the following:
