History of Grama Panchayat
Parathode is an area that has been inhabited since ancient times. The original inhabitants of this area were tribals, Arayar, Vedar, Ulladar, Malambandaram, Maravar, Kuravar, Mannan, etc. Apart from them, there were also Buddhist Koiyans. Koiyans were also called Mahaiyans. They lived in places like Vengathanam, Chittadi, Chotti, Palapra, etc. in Parathode panchayat. Historians believe that they were wiped out after the war with the Thekkumkur dynasty. There is a local legend that the name Padappadi, where Parathode panchayat office is located, came from the war that took place there. Kanjirapally taluk, which includes Parathode panchayat, belonged to Nantuzhai Nadu, which was part of the Kulasekhara empire from 800 to 1100 AD. The language that existed at that time was known as Nanam, Nantuzhai Nadu. This panchayat, which is a hybrid of ancient Tamil and Malayalam languages, has a rich cultural heritage. Many areas in this panchayat were inhabited centuries ago. The Buddhist Koiyas centered around Chotti, as well as the Malayarayans, Mannans, Ulladars, and Kuravars, had also settled in this panchayat. Since the 12th century, trade relations with the Chettinads near Dindigul in Tamil Nadu were active, so people from many communities who came from that area have settled in this panchayat. People of all castes and religions have had the right to use the Palapra Bhagavathy temple since the early decades of the temple and it still remains that way. Similarly, the decision to give land to the Parathode Muslim Church and the Gracy Memorial Church is recorded as a great history of the Palapra Bhagavathy temple. The annual Kumbha Pooram at Kuruvippara Church in Edakkunnam Pallimukku and the annual Chandanakkudumahotsavam at the 120-year-old Kuruvippara Church in Edakkunnam Pallimukku are celebrated by people of all castes and religions. There are 10 libraries operating in Parathode Panchayat. The library at Chittady and the public libraries and the Parathode Gandhi Library are worth mentioning.
